Our football props column returned to winning ways on Thursday – now we’ve got an 11/2 pick from the cards market for Friday’s La Liga derby…
“Duarte has been carded in three of five starts this season, while in this fixture it’s three of six.”

This isn’t the Basque derby but it certainly is a Basque derby.
And given it’s been raining cards in La Liga since the return of fans to stadia at the start of the season, the card markets look worth delving into.
These two clubs are separated by less than 40 miles in northern Spain and while the card totals in this fixture don’t match those of the ‘traditional’ Basque derby between Athletic and Real Sociedad, they are still notable. The last meeting with fans saw eight yellows shown.
The referee, Carlos del Cerro Grande, was the fourth-highest carder in La Liga last season, averaging five yellows per game and he’s already above that mark this season. Overall, the Spanish league is averaging over five YPG.
Rather than play the card lines, I’m happy to focus on two players whose numbers are pretty remarkable.
For the hosts, midfielder Dani Garcia is well known to referees and has already been carded four times this season – in just six starts. That means he’s now found his way into the book in 10 of his last 17 starts in La Liga.
His record in this derby is three cards in four appearances. Enough said.
For the visitors, Ruben Duarte forms the second leg of our Bet Builder.
He’s been carded in three of five starts this season, while in this fixture it’s three of six.
With Atletico favouring their right-hand side to attack, the left-back looks well placed to pick up another card.
The price of around 11/2 may not sound great for a player-card double but a read of those stats actually suggests it may be too big.
