England Squad: Southgate recalls Timori and Watkins for World Cup qualifiers

AC Milan defender and Aston Villa striker are recalled by Southgate for final round of World Cup 2022 qualifiers against Andorra and Hungary…

Gareth Southgate has recalled Fikayo Timori and Ollie Watkins to his England squad for the final round of World Cup qualifiers.

Defenders Harry Maguire and Trent Alexander-Arnold are not in the squad and will miss both matches through injury.

England travel to Andorra on Saturday 9 October and host Hungary on Tuesday 12 October. Victory in either match would see them top the group and seal their place in next year’s finals.

Last month, they beat both teams 4-0 in the reverse fixtures before throwing away the chance to confirm qualification by conceding a late equaliser in Poland. As it stands, England lead Group I by four points from Albania.

England are 8.88/1 to win World Cup 2022 in Qatar behind France 8.07/1 and 7.613/2 in the betting on the Exchange.

Central defender Timori moved from Chelsea to AC Milan in the summer and last played for England in November 2019 when he earned his only international cap.

Aston Villa striker Watkins was in Southgate’s provisional Euro 2020 squad but was cut from the final group and missed the last round of internationals. He was impressive for his club in their win at Old Trafford last weekend.

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is also back. He was part of the squad that reached the final of Euro 2020 after being drafted in following an injury to Dean Henderson. Ramsdale made a big money move to the Gunners from Sheffield United in the summer but is still waiting to earn his first England cap.
