Paul Robinson is focusing on the EFL Trophy and the National League tonight, and his Daily Acca weighs in at 15/2. Here are his selections:
Latics to ease to victory
Bet 1: Back Wigan @ 2/5 – KO 19:00 BST
Since U21 sides were allowed to enter the EFL Trophy, they haven’t been too competitive against the full time football league clubs.
Wigan should have no trouble against Wolves U21s tonight. They have made a strong start to their League One season – taking 10 points from five games, and they have also come through two rounds of the Carabao Cup.
The visitors have been beaten in three of their five fixtures in this competition since their debut in 2019, and they only won one inside of 90 minutes.
Villa’s youngsters to be beaten at Adams Park
Bet 2: Back Wycombe @ 4/6 – KO 19:00 BST
The Chairboys are up against Aston Villa’s U21 side tonight, and just like my opening selection, I fully expect the League One team to get the win.
Wycombe have the same record as Wigan so far this term – 10 points from a possible 15 – and they too are still in the Carabao Cup.
Villa have a miserable record in this competition – playing five and losing five, conceding 18 goals and scoring just three.
Spoils to be shared at Stockport
Bet 3: Back The Draw in Stockport v Grimsby @ 23/10 – KO 19:45 BST
Grimsby were relegated from League Two last season and they now face an uphill battle to win promotion from a competitive league where only the champions go up automatically.
Paul Hurst’s men beat Weymouth in their opening fixture, but tonight they are away at a Stockport team that finished third in this division last year.
Simon Rusk’s side lost their opening match against Dagenham, but they bounce back with a win at Southend, and this should be a closely fought battle with the visitors.
