McGregor updates fans: ‘I’m going to come back’

Conor McGregor wants his fans to know he’s not done fighting yet. McGregor — who had surgery to repair a broken leg — told fans, “I’m going to come back.”

McGregor released a six-minute video on Instagram telling his fans what happened during the fight, and letting them know he plans to return to the ring.

McGregor began the video by showing off his leg in a cast. He explained the highs and lows he experienced following the injury. McGregor said he was “euphoric” after having surgery, but then realized he faces a long road back to the ring.

Conor McGregor said he was injured before fight against Dustin Poirier

McGregor also explained he was injured before the fight with Dustin Poirier. McGregor said he had stress fractures in his leg going into the fight. He said that, combined with ankle issues he’s experienced in the past, led to the injury against Poirier.

While McGregor could have undergone surgery prior to the fight, he said he was waiting for something like this to happen to go under the knife. He also said doctors inserted a titanium rod from his knee to his ankle during the procedure. McGregor was told that rod is unbreakable, which led McGregor to compare himself to Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Terminator 2: Judgment Day.”

McGregor lasted one round against Poirier in their trilogy fight. The bout ended after McGregor’s leg snapped, requiring surgery. Some MMA fighters speculated the injury could be the end of McGregor’s career.

That’s not the way McGregor sees it. Now, it will be up to McGregor to prove he can not only come back from the injury, but still perform at an elite level.
